Paris in autumn: nature and art in the French parks and gardens

Paris is renowned for its monuments, museums, and historical sites. But it also abounds with many magnificent green parks and flourishing public gardens.

If you're looking for a relaxing autumn stroll surrounded by art and nature, here's a selection of the most charming and picturesque gardens in and around Paris.

Les Tuileries, the emblematic French garden of the 16th century, is the best place to experience culture, thanks to the Musée de l'Orangerie and the Musée du Louvre, but also to appreciate splendid gardens right in the heart of the city. This autumn, you can enjoy the Art Basel contemporary exhibition throughout the park. Visit the Musée de l'Orangerie to admire Amedeo Modigliani’s painting.

Are you looking for a spectacular garden that brings together the French way of life and exhibitions? Visit the Jardin du Luxembourg in the heart of the Latin Quarter. This garden is where Parisians love to stroll, relax on the chairs, listen to concerts, watch the chess players, and admire the roses garden during sumptuous exhibitions such as the current one, featuring two 20th-century icons, Pablo Picasso and Gertrude Stein.

Then, to appreciate the luxurious autumn colors, take a stroll through the Parc Montsouris, an English-style park full of hidden spots, grottoes, small staircases, lakes, and winding passages where you can get lost. Afterward, go to the Parc Monceau, with its famous weeping willows and statues, which is one of the most romantic and beautiful parks in Paris. Claude Monet painted it 5 times. In autumn, leaves are falling and the colors are splendid.

At the Jardin des Plantes, you can explore the large exhibition greenhouses, strolling between banana trees, lianas, ferns, and orchids, climb the rock to enjoy the panoramic view from the greenhouse, and discovering the explanation of plant varieties.

Then head off just a few minutes from the center of Paris, and take a quick ride to Vincennes. Walk through this huge park, and visit the castle. Then, go to the Parc Floral, where you can admire the most beautiful, seasonal varieties of flowers.

Near Paris, you can also explore the Parc de Sceaux, a vast park with beautiful autumn colors, where you can take a breath of fresh air surrounded by many species of birds that live there.

Last but not least, during this season, head to Giverny, the famous painter Monet's hometown. Go to his house and workshop, and enjoy the beauty of his garden, especially around the water lily lake
